When contacting a lodging option property, don't be afraid to ask for a lower rate or haggle for a discount. Sometimes hotels, cottages, guest houses and all inclusive resorts do not publish special rates or seasonal discounts.
Staying at an all inclusive resort is a safer environment since many are gated and have security staffs. All countries and cities have a degree of crime upon tourists and Jamaica is no different. As a tourist it is always wise to be careful and observant. Ask your host about security and safety and when you arrive, ask about any specific places you should avoid.
When booking reservations ask about room location, how far the room is from an elevator, and if a the room has great views. Typically those rooms will carry a higher price tag. Also inquire if there is any significant construction or renovation projects in-process. Of course you will want to be located for away from those areas.
